“We hope it will be used in areas essential for KAIST’s development and create national wealth.”
– 故 Cho Chun Shik

Cho Chun Shik Graduate School of Mobility (formerly The Cho Chun Shik Graduate School of Green Transportation) was established based on donation (15 billion KRW) from the late Chairman Cho Chun Shik and Mrs. Yoon Chang Ki. After considering various donation plans such as social welfare projects and childcare projects for a long time, they came to the conclusion that it is best to donate to KAIST, which is leading science and technology for national development. In addition, in a meeting with KAIST President Suh Nam-Pyo at the time, they were confident about the president’s leadership and KAIST vision.

When donating 10 billion won worth of real estate in June 2010, Chairman Cho Chun Shik said, “We couldn’t ask for more if we can contribute to the development of science and technology and help our country develop,” adding, “We hope it will be used in areas essential for KAIST’s development and create national wealth.” In addition, Mrs. Yoon Chang Ki said, “We didn’t donate because we were special, but we just gave out what we had,” and wanted to be anonymous donors.

Chairman Cho Chun Shik said, “I purchased the lands in Yeoksam-dong and Cheonan with severance pay and the money that I saved through frugal lifestyle. I’ve been holding the lands for 37 years and the years have increased the value.” He looked back on his life, saying that he tried his best in what he was given and his whole life to be the number one in his field.

KAIST used Chairman Cho and his wife’s development fund to establish a new graduate school in the field of mobility and named it “The Cho Chun Shik Graduate School of Green Transportation” to honor their noble will. In order to “implement a sustainable integrated mobility system linking movement and activities,” the name changed from ” The Cho Chun Shik Graduate School of Green Transportation ” to “Cho Chun Shik Graduate School of Mobility” in April 2022 and conducts multi-disciplinary convergence researches and education to develop future mobility systems.
