  • Speaker: Hwapyeong Yoo (Myongji University / Department of Smart Infrastructure Engineering)
  • Topic: Driving Characteristics of Autonomous Vehicles and Corresponding Traffic Control Policies
  • Date & Time: March 26 (Thursday), 4:00 PM–5:30 PM
  • Venue: Room L409
  • Abstract: Autonomous driving technology is rapidly entering the stage of commercialization; however, its impacts on real-world traffic systems remain uncertain. In particular, in mixed traffic environments where autonomous vehicles coexist with human-driven vehicles, subtle behavioral characteristics of autonomous vehicles may potentially degrade traffic flow stability. In this seminar, I analyze the response characteristics and asymmetric driving behavior of commercial ACC-equipped vehicles based on real-world trajectory data, and investigate the mechanisms through which these characteristics induce string instability. Furthermore, I develop a traffic flow modeling framework that incorporates these features to predict traffic conditions in mixed traffic environments, and discuss implications for traffic control strategies and policy in the era of autonomous driving.
